When you start your Lincoln, numerous lights on your dash illuminate and then go dark again in seconds. This multitude of light can sometimes seem overwhelming. As your Lincoln dealer, we want to tell you about some of your most important dashboard warning lights and what they mean.

From Your Lincoln Dealer: Understanding Your Dashboard Warning Lights

ABS Light

This light is a circle with ABS inside it and flanked by brackets. The ABS prevents your wheels from locking if your Lincoln’s tires skid on a wet or slippery surface. If your wheels lock, it’s difficult to regain control, and you could have an accident. The ABS is always in operation. If this light illuminates, your ABS has failed. We advise visiting us ASAP so we can find and fix the issue.

Battery Light

This light looks like a line drawing of a car battery. It represents the electrical system, and it illuminates if sensors in the engine detect a problem with the alternator, battery, or any other system components. Electrical issues cause a range of problems, from dim headlights to your engine refusing to start. We’ll check your electrical system and fix it.

Brake Light

This light looks like an exclamation point in a circle flanked by brackets. It’s a dual-function light, that is it represents an engaged parking brake and also identifies any issue affecting your braking system. Driving with an illuminated brake light is dangerous. We advise contacting us immediately so we can find the cause of the problem and repair it.

Engine Coolant Temperature

This light looks like a thermometer sinking into waves. Coolant is the liquid in the cooling system that absorbs heat and transfers it to the radiator for removal by heat exchange. If this light illuminates, the coolant temperature has risen too high. Pull over as soon as it is safe, and allow the coolant temperature to drop. We’ll identify the reason for the high temperature and repair its cause.

Tire Pressure Warning

This light looks like an almost complete circle with an exclamation point inside it. Sensors monitor your tire pressure, and if they detect an under or over-inflated tire, this warning light will light up. We’ll examine your tires and correct their pressure.

Powertrain Fault

This light looks like a two-headed wrench. It illuminates in response to a problem with the powertrain, which is the system that transfers power to the wheels. If this light comes on contact us ASAP. We’ll find the cause of the trouble and repair it.

These are some of your Lincoln’s most crucial warning lights. If you’d like to know more about these or any other lights on your dash, contact us today at West Point Lincoln of Sugar Land in Houston, TX.
